A "soft" unveiling of the major exhibit we are preparing for the State Capitol in Salem; Nez Perce in Oregon; Removal and Return. The small, colorful, and very dense exhibit will go to the Capitol later in the year.
We live in a time when conflict seems inevitable and achieving balance seems unlikely, from the smallest aspects of life to issues of major significance. It is challenging to have open dialogue if we assume society is polarized beyond return. Has it always been this way? Are our differences as deep as we imagine? How will we make the world a better place if we don’t work to find common ground? How can art-making help us and heal us as we engage in the process?

Watercolor artist Robin Coen and award-winning author Marina Richie have collaborated to create an exhibit of images and poetic narratives to send a message of compassion and solidarity with the natural world. In place of the Wallowa Valley Arts Festival, the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture is thrilled to present a new and dynamic event: the En Plein Air Festival, coming September 2025. Artist Submissions welcome through July.
