On her mother’s side she is of Cayuse and Nez Perce heritage. On her father’s side she is Nisqually, Pitt River, Karuk, Hawaiian, Greek and Italian/Swiss. Stage III breast cancer was the catalyst that ended Ms. Whitewolf’s legal career in 1998. From legal defense Ms. Whitewolf turned to advocating for Native cancer survivors by founding and directing for thirteen years Native People’s Circle of Hope, a national cancer advocacy nonprofit organization. She is now enjoying her retirement by exploring basketry using natural materials, traveling, sewing and fishing from her family scaffolds on the Columbia River.[/author_info] [/author]
