Ink-Paint Resist Technique with Joan Gilbert
November 5, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
$65.00This is a fun and easy-to-learn technique that puts an artsy looseness to even the simplest of line drawings. Beginners and high school students are welcome.
Ink-Paint Resist is a technique where water-soluble poster paint or gouache is used to protect the canvas from a coat of waterproof India ink. The end result is an image reminiscent of a wood block print. Resist techniques are fun because they are not completely controllable.
In this class we will practice this technique with a small pre-drawn canvas before moving on to a larger and final art piece. For the final art, if you’d like to create an image of your choosing, come to class with a simple line drawing that fits on an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper. If you don’t have one, no worries, pre-drawn options will be available to use. By the end of the class you will have a finished work of art.
In this workshop you will use materials that can stain clothing, please dress accordingly.
3 student minimum to run workshop.
Joan Gilbert Biography
In addition to a long career in graphic design, Gilbert has volunteered teaching art to kids in schools and camps throughout Eastern Oregon. She worked with the 2012 Enterprise Sixth Grade on a five-month animation project, which led to the six-minute animated short film Wallowa Lake – the REAL Story, and then three years later, to a children’s book of the same name. She has written and/or illustrated three other children’s books: ‘Twas the Night Before Round-Up (Author Nancy Atterbury, 2009), Little Prince Spaghetti (2011), and The Word Gobblers (Author Catherine Matthias, 2021).
In 2014, Gilbert expanded into exhibit design and created permanent exhibits for Josephy Center for Arts and Culture and designed a major portion of the exhibits for the newly-opened Wallowology! Natural History Discovery Center.
