Sewing Essentials Class: Learn the Art of Sewing!

Class Overview: In this hands-on class, students will gain foundational skills and knowledge for sewing, starting with important terms, tools, and how to care for your sewing machine. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on your sewing skills, this class will provide everything you need to confidently tackle sewing projects.
Students will be learning important terms and tools for sewing and how to care for their sewing machines. Students will also learn the essentials for your sewing kits, how to wind a bobbin, thread a sewing machine and how to trouble shoot. We will practice various stitches, learn fabric basics, how to make a buttonhole & put in zippers, how to hand sew, hem & mend. Students will also learn how to gather fabric, make casings and insert elastic. Time permitting, we will learn how to use a pattern. Students will take home a variety of projects they will make during the class. Please bring the supplies listed. Many things can be thrifted, or purchased at Prairie Creek Quilts.
Supplies Needed: Students need to supply the following:
-Portable Sewing Machine (include manual & accessories), Fabric Scissors, Thread, Bobbin, Thimble, Seam Ripper, Straight Pins for fabric, Cloth measuring tape, 6″ Sewing Gauge, drinking water, notepad & pen/pencil
