Introduction to Block Printing

Learn the basic techniques for block (or relief) printing with instructor Heidi Muller in this informative three hour workshop. Students use a soft, easy to cut rubbery medium, commonly referred to as “soft-kut” to create relief prints. Lessons on design transfer, how to use carving tools, inking, and burnishing images by hand—culminating in a series of prints. This is an intro class for beginners.
Heidi discovered printmaking in high school. Recently she found her way back to it here at Josephy Center. Drawing inspiration from nature, Heidi uses the big press in Josephy’s print studio, producing linocut prints, and also enjoys making small, hand-printed projects at home, She is a member of the Wallowa Printmakers Guild.
