We often fail to recognize these telling patterns when viewing a familiar object or scene. This exhibit encourages artists to examine and reveal nature beyond the familiar\, especially now in a rapidly changing world. \nEntries must depict a specific natural subject. The artwork may depict a real pattern in nature as it exists (for example\, a macro-photo of the variegated colors and patterns of lichen) or may represent the artist’s interpretation of the subject through some form of abstraction (a painting that depicts the patterns of fall foliage as blends of colors\, bands\, and stripes.) In either category\, the viewer may not be able to identify the specific object or landscape but is compelled to consider the patterns\, forms\, and design.  \nEligible media: photography\, paintings\, collage\, 3-D\, including ceramic\, fabric\, metal\, and wood. \nEntry Fee: $15 per piece for entries in the first two categories\, and $10 per piece in the Youth category. Limit of five entries per artist. ( paid to the Josephy Center.) This is a juried show. Artists will be informed of entries that are accepted \nEntry Deadline: Nov. 19. Artists informed of acceptance\, Nov. 30 \nOpening Exhibit: Friday\, January 7th from 5-7 p.m. \nCategories: \n\nNature in the Abstract: Work that depicts a pattern or composition displayed by a subject as it exists in nature. Work must be based upon the six elements of abstract art: Texture\, Shape\, Form\, Color\, and Value and not be an easily-identifiable representation of any particular natural object or subject.\nInterpretations of Nature: Work\, inspired by subjects in the real world\, that employs shape\, form\, lines\, and colors to create a composition or interpretation of the subject\, showing subject as the artist understands it\, not as it is. This category includes digitally altered/manipulated photographs\, abstract painting\, and interpretive abstract sculptures.\nYouth: Work produced by artists under the age of 18 that fits in either category above\, in any eligible media.\n\nJudging: Judge from outside Wallowa County\, TBD. \nAwards: \n\n\n\n\n\nFirst\, second and third place in all categories. Cash award ($100\, $50\, $25) and ribbons for each winner. Sponsors of prizes TBD.\nPeople’s Choice ($50) Sponsor TBD\n\n\n\n\n\n* Abstract art uses visual language of shape\, form\, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.
