HAUNT CAMP – Staged Frights: Banding Together for a Playful, Creative Cause

Oregon Humanities presents – Staged Frights: Banding Together for a Playful, Creative Cause. Join us for an all-ages workshop that delves into the world of Haunt Camp, a unique, extracurricular program that teaches design, fabrication, and performance art to Wallowa County high school students on Saturday, June 17th at 1:30p.m. Program director JR Rymut will share how a rural community can be a perfect and unexpected incubator of avant-garde art.
Through a multimedia presentation and hands-on collaboration, participants will learn about Haunt Camp’s manifesto and vision as a multigenerational, community-wide performance piece. We’ll explore how to encourage non-artists to see themselves as art people and how, when given a meaningful platform, resources, and respect, youth can enrich our communities. We will also have the opportunity to play a hands-on role in designing features of Haunt Camp’s upcoming 2023 production, scheduled for October 27–28 in Enterprise, Oregon.

About the presenter:
JR Rymut is an exhibit fabricator, community organizer, and prankster with a career in building museum dioramas and film sets. She worked in studios across the country before moving to Wallowa County and still spends her winters in the industry in Los Angeles. Since 2019, she has been steadily building Haunt Camp, a program to teach teenagers creative fabrication. She considers it her most heartfelt gift and service to her rural community.
