In Person & Virtual Brown Bag: Robyn and Mike Burns – Burns Violins

April 19 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Robyn and Mike Burns are the owners of Burns Violins and will be exploring the inner workings of a full service violin shop. Talking about music making as an integral part of the community, showcasing a violin salon, exploring some light history of violin making, and sharing a tune or two!

In 2009, after a decade lost to menial office tasks and then a grand epiphany, Mike began repairing and building violins. He has been at it ever since. After attending a year-long program specializing in repair and restoration, in Red Wing, MN, Mike worked for The Applebaum Violin Shop in Tacoma, WA. He then started his own violin business in 2017, Burns Violins. Sitting and crafting at the workbench is his favorite place, though he can also be found noodling on fiddle, guitar, and bass at stringband festivals around the Pacific Northwest. Future ambitions include involvement with Luthiers Sans Frontieres, an international non profit organization that teaches lutherie skills in developing countries where no services exist.

Robyn (Freatman) Burns was born and raised in the Wallowa Valley. She has played both fiddle and classical music from the age of 5. Robyn holds a BA in Music from Linfield College and has taught in a variety of venues, including Suzuki programs, fiddle camps, and private lessons across North America. She also regularly performs in fiddle contests and orchestras. Together she and her husband, Mike, run a small business, Burns Violins. www.burnsviolins.com

Robyn released “Learning in the Dark” in 2021. This full length album is a selection of tunes she wrote or was drawn to during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her album is available on Bandcamp or by emailing [email protected].
