Youth Ceramics – 8 week session – FALL 2024 with Jennifer Hawkins!

Fall Youth Ceramics

Fridays

10/4 – 11/22

1pm-2:30pm ages 7-11

10am-12pm ages 12-17

(Cancelled due to low enrollment) 

 

 

$95 for 8 week session (choose age group in tickets below)

Students will learn slab, coil and pinch construction techniques and various surface design techniques.  Students will also learn about Ceramics in the larger world through videos etc.

Dates: Fridays

  1. 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15

  2. 11/22 (Non-clay day. Tea/hot chocolate party.  Review/Critique. How to pack your ceramics to take home.)

  3. Possible alternate day/make up day depending on local school calendar!

Student Behavior Expectations (Please share these with your children)

Students will be expected to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe.

Respectful:

  • Listening to and following instructions the first time
  • Putting effort into projects
  • Not rushing through
  • Being civil

Responsible:

  • Appropriate use of tools and materials
  • Taking care of projects as instructed
  • Treating others with respect
  • Cleaning up

Safe:

  • Walking (not running)
  • Listening to instructions and following them
  • Passing supplies (not throwing)

Students will focus on learning and creating in clay, some talk and discussion is good! However, a lot of chatter is not. Students will be reminded of appropriate behavior which will be posted in the classroom as well. If students do not abide by the above Behavior Expectations a parent will be called and asked to come and pick up their child.

 

About the instructor:

Jennifer Hawkins is a native of Wallowa County. She grew up on a ranch; herding sheep, working cattle working in the wheat fields.  She studied Art Science and Education at the University of Oregon receiving a BS, MS and MFA. She enjoys teaching, especially the next generation, sharing her gifts and insights helping to inspire others.

Jennifer currently teaches Visual Arts at Joseph Charter School, Imnaha Bridge School, and Troy School.  Jennifer also enjoys roaming the wild places from which she draws her inspiration for creating art.

“I am inspired by the beauty of nature; its colors, textures and forms. I immerse myself in nature whenever possible, especially the ‘wild places’. The Wilderness makes my soul sing and renews my spirit.  My intent in my art is to transform the beauty I see/perceive with heart, mind and spirit into new creations, interpretations in the media that speaks.”
