Exhibit Walkthrough
Curators: Ellen Morris Bishop and Debbie Lind
Upper image by M.C. Reardon
Description: We usually observe nature as discrete, recognizable subjects: a mountain, a bird, a tree, a river, etc. But in reality, our view of nature is composed of textures, shapes, forms and colors. We often fail to recognize these telling patterns when viewing a familiar object or scene. This exhibit encourages artists to examine and reveal nature beyond the familiar, especially now in a rapidly changing world.
Exhibit Opening: Due to inclement weather and concerns over rising covid case numbers we have chosen to reschedule the opening reception for Nature in the Abstract at a later date TBA. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Mediums: photography, paintings, collage, 3-D, including ceramic, fabric, metal, and wood.
Exhibit Categories:
- Nature in the Abstract: Work that depicts a pattern or composition displayed by a subject as it exists in nature.
- Interpretations of Nature: Work, inspired by subjects in the real world, that employs shape, form, lines, and colors to create a composition or interpretation of the subject, showing subject as the artist understands it, not as it is.
- Youth: Work produced by artists under the age of 18 that fits in either category above, in any eligible media.
