My Life on Joseph Creek

by Julie Davis Kooch

If you are looking for flowery literature, read another book. This is a straight-shootin’ memoir of a tough life in rugged country. It is just a series of Julie’s memories covering her entire life. There is much accurate historical information woven into the many experiences of life in Eastern Oregon. As I read each night before bed, I would burst out laughing and have to read a paragraph to my husband. There were some tricks played on the children by the cowboys and vice versa; but there were also just the little disasters that happen when you don’t have the correct equipment out in the middle of nowhere and you have to be clever and make do with what you have. This is a chronicle of a lifestyle that is quickly disappearing from the American West. Highlighted by 462 photos, this story is very entertaining and delightful.
