40th Annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts Application

July 31, 2022

Full Application Prospectus

We hope this finds you all well, healthy, and enjoying a wonderfully inspiring spring.  Well, after two years of isolation and unprecedented challenges, we are looking ahead with anticipation and excitement – as this is certainly a time to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts!  We are looking forward to seeing YOU, our ever-growing family of artists, and enjoy your company in beautiful Joseph, Oregon, next September 10-18, 2022.

The Wallowa Valley is truly a special spot on the map.  Our breathtaking scenery captivates the heart, piques the imagination, and has a knack for unleashing the artist within us all.  It’s not by coincidence, that this beloved corner of Oregon is renowned for its vibrant community of artists, its exquisite galleries, its numerous bronze foundries, and its “WOW-inducing” Main Street art installations.  Whether you’re a local artist who has lived here most of your life, or you’ve never ventured quite this far out to the “End of the Road”, we encourage you to come and let yourself experience, anew, how this place will enchant and inspire you.  And, while you’re at it, be sure to step out and play a bit…take advantage of the myriad outdoor recreation opportunities this area has to offer.  And, what better time to explore Joseph and the Wallowas, than during colorfully placid September?! Some have even taken to calling it our fifth season – our “Season of Art”.

Our 2022 dates for the Fine Art Show (including Opening Reception, Afternoon of the Quick Draw, and live music), will be September 16-18.  As a lead-up to the main weekend, we are also excited to offer an extended optional En Plein Air Competition, commencing on Saturday, Sept. 10th, and culminating on Friday, Sept. 16th. We will, again, host a Joseph Gallery Walk; and have plans for a concert at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture time to be announced at a later date.

The Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts is the largest juried fine art exhibition in Eastern Oregon, featuring representational/traditional realism from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, as well as contemporary art.  The festival reflects the beauty, culture, and traditions of our region through its arts and artists.  Consistent with that intent, any subject, style, or medium within the categories listed below will be considered by our jury.  Exhibition space is limited, so jurors will select pieces that are most appropriate for the venue and our diverse audience.  The categories are as follows:

Sculpture……………Any Three-Dimensional Work in Wood, Clay, Stone, Bronze, or other Metal

Painting.…………….Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor

Drawing.…………….Pastel, Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal, Ink, or any combination thereof

Printmaking……….Woodblock, Engraving, Etching, Monoprint, Aquatint, Linotype, Lithography,       Silkscreen, or Digital Art Prints

Photography………Any Photograph that begins with the capture of the image through a lens, including

                                 Digitally-Altered Photography

Other………………….Glass, Jewelry, Fiber Arts, Ceramics, or Mixed Media

*Copies, kits, reproductions, or work done under the supervision of an instructor are not eligible.

Below, are additional important details to keep in mind, as we approach this year’s Festival of Arts:
