Closing Reception Hello Neighbor and Timber Culture

February 17, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us Friday February 17th for a last view of Timber Culture and a special performance by Bart Bugwig. Bart has learned to play Gwen Trice’s father Lucky’s Ukelin, and will give a demonstration. The ukelin is a stringed instrument played with a bow, and designed to be played by two people. Made popular in the 1920s it is meant to be a combination of the violin and the ukulele.

In addition, Gwen Trice Founder and Executive Director of Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center or MHIC will show a short film about Hello Neighbor. Hello Neighbor is a community building project of the MHIC  exploring what it means to live in Wallowa County today. Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center recognizes that people living in Wallowa County have varied and complex experiences and that one way to build understanding a connect a community is through shared story telling. Inspired by the difficulties of socializing during a pandemic Hello Neighbor seeks to answer to the question “How can we find new ways to meet our neighbors?” This project made possible in part by a grant from Oregon Humanities, a statewide nonprofit organization and an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds Oregon Humanities’ grant program. During the closing reception we will be collecting contact information for potential host of, or participates in the next iteration Hello Neighbor. We hope to see you there!
