Beginning Willow Basketry Workshop

9am-5pm with a break for lunch

Students will learn how to weave a traditional stake and strand willow basket. The process of weaving includes learning techniques and patterns alongside the freedom to explore personal style and creativity. Students will take home a round wicker basket woven by their own hands!

Materials included but students should bring a small sharp knife and a pair of garden clippers (hand pruners).

Beginners welcome. 12 yrs and up. Spaces limited to 5 students

 

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

The ancient art of basket weaving lives in the ancestral memory of all human hands. Sylvia Friday is a traditional basketmaker, folk artist and writer. Weaving with willow combines her love for rivers, creeks and wetlands with her love for making things with her hands. Sylvia lives at a remote willow farm in the Oregon coast range.
