Dear Artists —
We hope this finds you all well, and enjoying a wonderful and inspiring spring. Well, we’ve come full-circle, and it’s that time again, when we reach out and invite our ever-growing family of artists to come out and join us, in beautiful Joseph, Oregon, next September 10 – 15, 2019, for the 37th Annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
The Wallowa Valley is truly a special spot on the map. Our breathtaking scenery captivates the heart, piques the imagination, and has a knack for unleashing the artist within us all. It’s not by coincidence, that this beloved corner of Oregon is renowned for its vibrant community of artists, its exquisite galleries, its numerous bronze foundries, and its “WOW-inducing” Main Street art installations. Whether you’re a local artist who has lived here most of your life, or you’ve never ventured quite this far out to the “End of the Road”, we encourage you to come and let yourself experience, anew, how this place will enchant and inspire you. And, while you’re at it, be sure to step out and play a bit…take advantage of the myriad outdoor recreation opportunities this area has to offer. And, what better time to explore Joseph and the Wallowas, than during colorfully placid September?! Some have even taken to calling it our fifth season – our “Season of Art”.
Our 2019 dates for the Fine Art Show (including Opening Reception, Afternoon of the Quick Draw, and Silent Auction), will be September 13- 15. We’re also excited to, once again, offer our optional En Plein Air Competition, commencing on the evening of Tues., Sept. 10, and culminating on Thurs., Sept. 12, with a special reception and art hanging at the Wallowology Natural History Discovery Center (please refer to our Prospectus for all the details on this event). We will, again, host a Joseph Gallery Walk; and we will wrap up the festivities with a Sunday evening Classical Music Concert at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture.
The Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts is the largest juried fine art exhibition in Eastern Oregon, featuring representational/traditional realism from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, as well as contemporary art. The festival reflects the beauty, culture, and traditions of our region through its arts and artists. Consistent with that intent, any subject, style, or medium within the categories listed below will be considered by our jury. Exhibition space is limited, so jurors will select pieces that are most appropriate for the venue and our diverse audience.
The Categories are as Follows:
Any Three-Dimensional Work in Wood, Clay, Stone, Bronze, or other Metal
Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor
Pastel, Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal, Ink, or any combination thereof
Wood block, Engraving, Etching, Monoprint, Aquatint, Linotype, Lithography, Silkscreen, or Digital Art Prints
Any Photograph that begins with the capture of the image through a lens, including Digitally-Altered Photography
Glass, Jewelry, Fiber Arts, Ceramics, or Mixed Media
*Copies, kits, reproductions, or work done under the supervision of an instructor are not eligible.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, PLEASE REFER TO OUR DETAILED PROSPECTUS. This Prospectus should be considered your “one-stop shop” for ALL pertinent information; as it contains nearly every detail you will need, in terms of pre-, during-, and post-festival instructions and announcements. The new size/dimension restrictions for individual art pieces and maximum number of juried art pieces are also listed in the Prospectus…so, please make yourself familiar with these details, prior to submitting your artwork for jurying.
The artist deadline to apply and submit images is July 31, 2019. All artwork MUST be submitted through the online site, Call for Entries. Acceptance emails will be sent between August 7- 11.
We are proud to announce that our Judge for the 2019 Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts is the distinguished, Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson.
For all accepted artists, we will, once again, be presenting our Silent Auction. You may want to be thinking now of a piece to enter into the silent auction. Please note, though, that an auction piece is NOT required as a condition to exhibit in the Festival. For more details, please refer to the Prospectus.
If you have questions and/or concerns that cannot be addressed through either the Prospectus, or the above websites, please don’t hesitate to contact our Festival Director, Jeff Costello,(510) 390-2121, email@example.com . You can also call the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, (541) 432-0505.
