JCAC is excited to bring back our annual Women's Art Exhibit for 2023. The theme for Women's History Month 2023 is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories ." We invite artists to submit artwork to our call - it can follow this theme or can be open to artists work that want to be apart of the Women's Art Show without be constricted to a theme.
"I will cover aspects of my favorite mediums, tattooing and pen and ink drawing. I’ll go through my process, from start to finish, for both. I’ll discuss how each medium has influenced the other and show the ways in which the two connect, both in application and in theory. I’ll also cover some details of my newest venture into tattooing with the opening of Meadowlark, my one person tattoo studio in downtown Joseph. In this class for 8-12 year olds, students focus on drawing & painting using a variety of mediums.
This handbuilding class for teens will give them the foundation to create in clay successfully. Class includes clay, glazes and firing. Preregistration is required.
Heidi Muller teaches all the basics of playing the dulcimer in this five-week workshop. Students can typically play one or two simple songs by the end of the first lesson. Music includes traditional tunes and familiar songs, as students progress from one-finger melodies to using chords. No musical experience required!

What is a wild landscape? One thing that makes Eastern Oregon so special is untouched and undeveloped landscapes. The Wild Landscape exhibit will celebrate Northern Wallowa County's diverse and wild lands. This means the landscape is the focal point, no human-made objects visible in the art works.

Mike is an author-illustrator of fiction and nonfiction graphic novels, including the Star Scouts series for First Second. He has also illustrated a middle grade novel. In addition to making comics, Mike has created several pieces of public art for his hometown of Portland, Oregon.

Jennifer grew up in Northern Wallowa County on a ranch. Herding sheep, working cattle, working in wheat fields. She studied Art, Science and Education at the University of Oregon receiving a BS, MS and MFA. We are honored to have master printmaker Lisa Mackie here as our first printmaking Artist-in-Residence. On Wed., July 26, at noon, Lisa will speak about her career, techniques, inspiration and more. She will do a slideshow presentation and the event will be presented live on YouTube or you may attend in-person.
Lisa Mackie is our 2019 printmaking residency award winner, based in New York. Lisa will be an Artist in Residence at Josephy Center from Mid-July through Mid-August, 2023. Her work will be on display in our main gallery July 27th- August 1st.
In her exhibition “Rondo” a term in reference to a musical form that contains a principal theme which alternates with one or more contrasting themes, Mackie explores the process of visual memory, evolving imagery, and continuous motion through her journey in India in 1999.
The festival is the largest juried fine art exhibition in Eastern Oregon, featuring representational realism as well as contemporary art from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Andie Madsen will be presenting her film, "Water in the Desert," and give a talk at the Josephy Center. The desert is in Morocco, and the film follows archeologists and contemporary Moroccans as they explore a very old way of moving water in hot, harsh climates.
